I was living in L.A. sleeping on a friend's couch in late 2007. He and I had each just been through a bad breakup. He suggested that we go to Santa Rosa and work the wine harvest at Punch Down Cellars (Copain Custom Crush at the time). We worked our asses off, drank good wine and cheap beer. There was a hot tub at the house we rented. I texted friends back home from my Razr flip phone. We watched Deadwood and drank whiskey (we almost always passed out in our chairs before the episode was over).
We worked our asses off.
I moved back to LA to be another jackass in a band. I gave harvest another shot in 2009, this time at Copain Winery in Healdsburg. I worked my ass off. We drank good wine and cheap beer. On the last day of harvest they asked me to drag a dead stag off the road that leads to the winery.

I returned to in 2014 to work Harvest at Siduri in Santa Rosa. I worked my ass off.
Oakland. Wine Bar jobs. Cycling.
2015. I want to make some wine. Tracy from Donkey connects me with Jody at Broken Leg Vineyard and I buy 3/4 ton of Syrah with a little Viognier sprinkled in.
Now I'm a winemaker. I try not to work my ass off.
